General Data Protection Regulation (EU)

The GDPR, or General Data Protection Regulation, is a European privacy law that regulates how personal data of individuals in the EU can be collected, used, and processed. The law impacts European companies and any business that targets European individuals or collects, uses, or processes the personal data of European individuals regardless of where the business is located. Essentially, this means the GDPR applies to most organizations that process personal data of EU individuals—regardless of where they are established and regardless of where their processing activities take place.

What does consent mean...

GearSource is required to have your consent to process your personal data. When you enter the GearSource.com marketplace you are asked to provide private data, such as your name, address, phone number, email address, in order to facilitate your wish to sell items on the GearSource.com marketplace or purchase items. You are freely giving specific, informed, and unambiguous consent to GearSource to use the information you provide to complete your sale or purchase on GearSource.com and/or to deliver email messages to your email address, including marketing emails. In order to verify that we have obtained adequate consent, we retain a written record and date stamp of when and how someone agreed to let us process and use their personal data, which is completed when you first sign-up to buy or sell on GearSource.com or to receive email content such as the Daily Deal, and other marketing emails.

Individual Rights

GearSource uses an individual’s personal data to supply marketing content that the individual opted in to receive, to manage the communication and the facilitation of the selling of items the individual listed for sale on GearSource.com and/or to facilitate the completion of a purchase on GearSource.com.

GearSource is obligated to share with the individual the personal data we hold. What are cookies?

A “cookie” is a small line of text that is stored within your browser when you visit a cookie-enabled website. As you browse the Web, cookie-enabled sites will send cookies to your browser, along with pages. Your browser probably has options that will let you control whether the browser accepts cookies, rejects cookies, or notifies you each time a cookie is sent to you.

If your browser is set to reject cookies, cookie-enabled websites will not recognize you when you return. This provides you with anonymity, but it also makes it very difficult to offer you customized services. It is also less secure than using cookies, because all of your specific data must be sent to the website each time you view a page. Accepting cookies means your private data can stay at the Web server, and the only information transmitted over the Internet is your ID cookie.

If your browser is set to accept cookies, any cookies that are sent to your browser are stored in your computer for a period of time. There are a few different types of cookies. A “session” cookie is stored only in your computer’s working memory (RAM) and only lasts for your browsing session. When you close all of your browser’s windows, or when you shut down your computer, the session cookie disappears forever. A “permanent” cookie is stored on your computer’s hard drive until a specified date, which could be tomorrow, next week, or 10 years from now. Permanent cookies stay on your computer until either:

  • they expire,
  • they are overwritten with newer cookies,
  • you manually remove them.
